Computer Tutor

Tasks Involved: Teaching over 50's how to email, use the internet, word processing, and other IT functions.

Skills needed:  IT experience through work or home use and the patience and ability to teach older people

 

Benefits to Volunteer: All expenses paid, mileage reimbursed at 40p per mile; opportunities to exchange ideas and information with other IT volunteers

 

Times / Days: Variable to suit at borough libraries and other locations to be arranged

Attendance Allowance volunteer

Tasks Involved: Assisting in the completion of Attendance Allowance claims in clients’ homes

Skills needed: Comfortable with official forms, communication skills, understanding of older people

 

Benefits to Volunteer: All expenses paid, mileage reimbursed at 40p per mile

 

Times / Days:          Half day per week to suit

Charity Shop Helper

 

Tasks Involved: Serving customers at the till, arranging and tidying goods

Skills needed: Cash handling experience and good with people

 

Benefits to Volunteer: Social interaction with staff, fellow volunteers and customers; satisfaction of raising funds for Age Concern services to the older people of the community

 

Times / DaysRegular half day per week in Shirley, central Solihull, Hobs Moat or Castle Bromwich

Tasks Involved: Selling Age Concern Insurance and financial products

Skills needed: Customer service, administrative and numeracy skills; basic computer skills

 

Benefits to Volunteer: Opportunity to use existing skills and develop new ones through structured training; satisfaction in gaining commission which is used to fund services for older people

 

Times / DaysOne regular half day per week

Tasks Involved: Regular befriending visits to older people, transport using own car, odd jobs

Skills needed: Understanding of older people and their problems

Times / Days: Variable to suit
