Pinbadge Volunteer – West Midlands Tasks Involved: placing RSPB badges in a variety of shops, vets, pet shops, garden centers etc by asking local venues to display our counter-top presentation box and collecting the revenue. Skills needed: reliable and trustworthy, knowledge, enthusiasm and a desire to meet people, plus an outgoing personality with good communication skills. Benefits to Volunteer: work with a friendly team, learn new skills, visit different venues across the area and gain valuable insight into the work of the RSPB, training and expenses provided.
Times / Days: visiting the boxes every 4-6 weeks

Bird Friendly Schools Volunteer Tasks Involved: delivering a community-based project to local primary schools to bring to life learning about wildlife and the local environment. Skills needed: expert knowledge is not needed as full training will be given, reliable and trustworthy, knowledge, enthusiasm and a desire to meet people, plus an outgoing personality with good communication skills.

Times / Days: will need to make 3 visits to your allocated school during the school year

Date: 10/03/08 Visitor Centre/Hide Assistant Tasks Involved: welcome visitors to this developing reserve and enhance their visitor experience. Staff the reception and the hide, and provide information to the public. Skills needed: to be good with people, friendly disposition, enthusiasm for RSPB, tact and diplomacy, some natural history / conservation knowledge and advantage. A willingness to learn. Familiarity with customer care an advantage, but not essential.

Times / Days: one day a fortnight at weekends, but flexible

Date: 10/03/08 Practical Conservation Volunteer – Middleton Lakes Tasks Involved: help with habitat management and reserve maintenance Skills needed: previous experience is not essential as training is given but you will need to be prepared to be outdoors in all weathers and have a reasonable level of fitness to undertake tasks such as reed planting, scrub clearing and general estate work. We also recommend an up to date tetanus jab.

Times / Days: 2nd Sunday and Wednesday of the month, you can come as often or as little as you can

Date: 10/03/08 Events Helper – West Midlands Tasks Involved: Assisting with making sure events run smoothly and that attendees enjoy themselves Skills needed:Good natural history knowledge, enthusiasm and a desire to meet people, plus an outgoing personality with good communication skills. Also an enjoyment of hands on activities e.g. badge making, mask making etc.
Benefits to Volunteer: work with a friendly team, learn new skills, visit different venues across the area and gain valuable insight into the work of the RSPB, training and expenses provided.
Times / Days: Minimum commitment: 4 or 5 days a year – possibly early mornings
