Solihull leisure Opportunities,

St. Andrews Centre, Pike Drive, Chelmsley Wood B37 7US

Tasks Involved: supporting children and adults with a learning disabilities to access leisure opportunities either in a specialist group or within the community

Skills needed: driving an advantage, but not essential, ability to work with disabled people, experience and advantage, but not essential

 

Benefits to Volunteer: fun activities, lovely people to work with, full training offered, opportunity to benefit others, opportunity to develop skills in new areas which could open up future career development.

 

Times / Days: evenings and weekends

 

Special Requirements volunteers would need to have a CRB check carried out and 2 references.

Solihull Leisure Opportunities

 

Icebreakers–Volunteers pick up the members(adults who have a

learning disability) one evening per month and go to the activity.

(This can be bowling, pictures, meals out etc)

All volunteers will need to be CRB.

Tasks Involved: Listening and talking to members, picking the members up and taking them home, supporting the members as appropriate.

 

skills needed: Good listener, reliable, trustworthy, Friendly, able to empathise, car driver

Times / Days: Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday Evenings (once a month) Pm

Service User Reference Group (S.U.R.G)

S.U.R.G– We are members  from SoLO Projects. We speak up for

other members of the projects we go to at SURG meetings which

meet every 8 weeks at St. Andrews Church Centre.

 All volunteers will need to be CRB.

Tasks Involved: Listening and talking to members, supporting the members as appropriate.

 

skills needed: Good listener, reliable, trustworthy, Friendly, able to empathise, experience with people who have a learning disability desirable but not crucial

Times / Days: Thursday evenings (every 8 weeks) 6.30-8.30pm

The Thursday Crew is a project for adults who have a learning

disability, who come together every thursday at Chelmsley Town

Football Club to meet with their friends, talk and or play games and

have loads of fun. All volunteers will need to be CRB.

Tasks Involved: Listening and talking to members, playing games, playing snooker, helping set up room.

 

Skills needed: Good listener, reliable, trustworthy, Friendly, able to empathise,

 

Benefits to Volunteer: Increase your skills and confidence; make friends, have fun, in-house training offered,  travelling  expenses paid.

 

Times / Days: Thursday Evenings (weekly) 6.30-9.30pm

Night Owl - Joint project with Solihull Action Through Advocacy for

adults who have a learning disability, who come together every

monday at the Ivy Leaf, Coventry Road to meet with their friends,

talk and or play games and have loads of fun. All volunteers will

need to be CRB.

Tasks Involved: Listening and talking to members, playing games, playing snooker, helping set up room.

 

Skills needed: Good listener, reliable, trustworthy, Friendly, able to empathise,

Times / Days: Monday Evenings (weekly apart from bank holidays) 6.30-9.30pm
