Welcome

An independent charity providing advice, guidance, information and interventions for adults affected by substance misuse.

Welcome is currently recruiting volunteers to work within the substance misuse sector.

You will be working with individuals affected by substance misuse within a drop in facility.

The type of work that will be undertaken will include providing support to the staff team, mentoring and advocacy, attending to the needs of drug users, to motivate clients in all aspects of daily life, deliver activities as part of the day care program offered at Welcome. We are particularly interested in volunteers that would like to be involved in the provision of regular healthy meals for our clients in order to promote a healthy lifestyle.

We are also interested in hearing from individuals who have a particular interest in gardening. Welcome has a small gardening project which a number of our clients take part in. In order to enhance the support that we are giving our clients we would like to recruit volunteers to assist with this project and supervise clients in the garden.

Welcome offers a great induction and training package for its volunteers and all expenses incurred will be re-imbursed.

Volunteer Role:

To provide assistance and support to clients with substance misuse issues within a drop in centre environment.

Tasks Involved:

Giving advice guidance and information to clients regarding substance misuse. To provide assistance with basic needs. To provide assessment and referral into appropriate interventions.

Skills needed:

Good communication skills, some experience of working with drug users and a belief in people’s ability to change, some understanding of drug and alcohol misuse, the effects on the user and the wider society. Willingness to participate in any offer of training and development.

Times / Days:

Monday – Friday 9.00am – 4.30pm
